What do older interest clubs represent today? Do they really help retirees start a second life?

In Western cultures and societies, the main categories that determine the value of an individual are their effectiveness and productivity. As you know, these qualities are not the best for citizens after 50 and 60. At least that is the general opinion.

There are exceptions, for example, politicians reach their peak after 70, and this is also well known. And it’s also known what they get.

But for the average citizen at the retirement age, a period begins when he is not too greeted at work. Management allows itself to be negatively neglected and no longer expects anything outstanding from it.

And already, having retired, a person risks to end up in a situation of isolation and isolation from real life.

Here, of course, there is the fact that people are simply afraid of aging and death, and they try to stay away from the elderly, especially the weak ones. Of course, not all older people experience the negative effects of ageism and prejudice about aging, but many have a hard time.

Old age is a social problem

In modern states there is a general process of population aging.   The proportion of older people over 65 increases over time, and old age itself is already perceived by society as a social problem. The adaptation of elderly people has acquired precisely a social character, and age-related features in this case fade into the background, although they do not lose their significance.

The paradox is that society, considering a person so old to stop working with him, perceives him by default young enough to solve his own problems on his own.

Received a pension or allowance - and be satisfied, what else do you need from us? We are young people, our whole life is ahead, and our old people have outlived what to expect from them? Unless the inheritance and its attendant status. That is, life experience, professional skills and knowledge of an aging person are perceived as a useless thing, and become unclaimed by society.

An elderly person, of course, perceives this fact as a flagrant injustice. Some old people are humble, others are rebelling, and some pensioners, the most active and sensible, not wanting to stay in a state of stagnation and isolation, are looking for a way out of the impasse.

What to do to the pensioner, especially to the newly made one, thrown out of the usual rhythm of life, in such a situation? First of all, do not fall into despondency, which, as you know, “There is boredom at every thing”,   and engage in the search for such a thing to your liking, according to your interests.

In Russia, by the way, many public initiatives have appeared to attract pensioners to an active life.

For example, in Perm came up with the "School of an elderly entrepreneur"in which older people, having studied the basics of market laws and accounting, started selling their own goods through social networks, special sites and online stores.

For many, this science was given easily, especially if the experience of the previous labor activity created the prerequisites for this. But at the same time it turned out that classes, which for many years were considered just a hobby, became a source of income. For example, design, needlework - embroidery, knitting, and more.

Many pensioners who have retained their strength and do not want to part with their profession are engaged in volunteering, and in this matter the society meets their needs: in many social centers, volunteer training programs for older people have appeared.

From the same series and various interest clubs. Some of them were the fruit of self-organization, others are created by municipal services.

An example of self-organization is the Moscow club, which was created by senior citizens, single and poor. At first they were few, and united by their desire not to lose touch with the cultural life of the capital.

Members of the Old Moscow Club were able to visit theaters, exhibitions, museums, without which they, having got used to it in Soviet times, no longer felt like Muscovites. I must say that society readily went to meet them, for example, the Russian Academy of Arts, many Moscow theaters, other organizations that began to cooperate with the club.

Clubs for the elderly began to be created in Russian cities at libraries, creativity centers, as part of social bodies and enterprises.

One has to admit that society is slowly recognizing the need for such measures, since it is impossible to allow a person to remain alone, without communication with other people, in his old age. This is fraught with depression and mental disorders, and interest clubs are a good antidote to these negative phenomena.

Throughout the world, in developed countries, especially in Europe, older people make up too much of the total population to go unnoticed. So, in 1990, December 4, the United Nations proclaimed October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons.

Since 1991, this day began to be celebrated in Europe, then in America, and since 1992 in Russia.

In European countries, the life of pensioners is considered the most prosperous - in, and in other countries. In them, primarily, various courses for the elderly, fitness clubs, and institutions of interest began to appear.

In fact, the first interest clubs appeared in Europe as early as the 19th century, and now this idea has been adapted for the elderly. In European cities, measures are being taken to introduce pensioners to modern technologies, appropriate infrastructure is being created, and other measures are being taken to prevent older people from closing themselves in the walls of their homes.

Not only hobby groups are created, but also psychotherapeutic groups, various psychological trainings are organized. Western European retirees actively travel, participate in development centers and other activating events.

A peculiar indicator of the fact that the public does not ignore pensioners is, among other things, fashion brands, which are presenting clothing lines for people of more than a respectable age.

A Russian pensioner, finding himself in a new situation, torn off from the work collective, suddenly feels empty.

In this situation, being alone is contraindicated. Moreover, do not give in to sad thoughts about your own uselessness. In fact, old age is a socially useful phenomenon, you just need to find a way to apply your rich life experience, skills and professional training.

And most importantly - you need to start communicating with others in the new environment. This is where interest clubs for the elderly come to the rescue. Work in such clubs is carried out on the following topics:

• social assistance is provided to older people;
• medical and social support;
• work is being done with war veterans;
• the functioning of educational programs is ensured;
• leisure activities are organized in acceptable forms.

Such clubs are created either at the place of work or on a territorial basis.

Often in a factory, factory, or in any other organization, clubs are set up for retired employees. People gather there who worked together, were friends, have long known each other's families. They are interested in meeting, exchanging news, talking about their native enterprise.

The club at the pensioner's place of residence is a completely different matter. Here people communicate more often, because everything is nearby, within walking distance. Often, such clubs operate at the library, or in the local house of culture, or in the center of social services.

There are cases when meetings are held in cafes - older people do not neglect gastronomic pleasures.

The club for the elderly becomes as if their new large family, where all members are equal and equally worthy. This clubs favorably with the situation in the circle of relatives, where an elderly person may feel superfluous, uninteresting and burdensome. Everything is wrong here.

Work in such a club can be organized in different ways, it all depends on the means at its disposal. Too many club members should not be, otherwise the atmosphere of intimacy and comfort will be lost.

But you should not isolate yourself, you need to take care of establishing contacts with other clubs, take part in social events in your city. Moreover, all activities should be planned in such a way that they correspond to the forces and needs of pensioners.

1.   Often the club provides an opportunity to engage in some craft or handmade, just of general interest. This can be needlework, cutting and sewing, carpentry, photography or, for example, the collection of medicinal herbs.

You can sell the results of your work at exhibitions, auctions, arrange sales, and at the same time replenish the club’s fund at the expense of revenue.

2.   If the club has a territory for planting, then there will always be enthusiasts for growing vegetables, flowers, ornamental shrubs and fruit trees. It is useful to arrange benches and tables on the site so that you can work to the best of your ability and relax right there, because all gardeners are no longer young.

3.   As part of educational programs, classes, lectures, and courses from various fields of knowledge can be arranged. Today, many discoveries are taking place, interesting news from the field of technology, science and technology.

4.   Older people are happy to engage in amateur art, to join various types of art. Therefore, they can be very popular:

• drama club or amateur theater;
• vocal lessons or instrumental ensembles, including - popularization of song traditions;
• classes in painting, sculpture, different types of drawing.

5.   It is useful for those who are still able to organize excursions of a health nature in nature, arrange classes of preventive, and even therapeutic gymnastics.

Pensioners are very fond of dancing, for them it is worthwhile to arrange dance evenings more often. It is especially good to do this in the summer, somewhere in the park, so that there is a spacious place surrounded by benches and good dance music.

Pensioners will gather at such a platform from all the surrounding places. Some of them will surprise modern youth with a pompous dance style.

6.   For those who like to have fun sitting, they arrange board games, but, of course, not gambling. Crosswords have been addicted to the overwhelming majority of pensioners, there are champions.

Also, older people like to discuss books and magazines they read, television series or matches of their favorite teams. If only there was a place to pack up and sit in the company, listen to the radio, talk.
