home - Small houses
House of unusual shape. The piano house with a violin. Banknote House in Lithuania

For many of us, a home is a cozy place where you can eat, sleep and relax after a hard day. We purchase various knick-knacks, look for furniture and beautiful wallpapers to do our own thing, in fact there is no fundamental difference between our home and the neighbor’s abode. But 10 houses represented in our rating go beyond the scope of “4 walls” and are distinguished by the originality and breadth of imagination of their creators.

Shoe House in Pennsylvania

It is just a 15-minute walk from harbor to harbor. Who was in this building? My head ultimately became an example of the visual pollution of the area and was a shame for the entire area. When we bought this building, many were amazed. How did you come up with the idea of placing an industrial spirit in it? “This is not your home” - this is our meaning or the motto of this project. Modern wanderers of the world do not look for such places as houses, but rather something unusual, different experiences. In the end, even the impressions are forgotten, only the feelings that make up our whole being remain.

The most unusual houses in the world

The Belgian town of Stenokersel is famous not only for its unpronounceable name, but also for a house located in an old water tower. It belongs to the director of one company, Patrick Mets. All his life, Patrick dreamed of living in a similar tower. And his dream came true! The tower has 6 floors, its height is about 30 m. The Mets acquired the building for $ 43,000. Leaving the interior layout unchanged, the new owner entrusted the interior of his house to the designer Mauro Brigham, who brought the room into a residential view.

Many of them do not stay in their house because the metal looks too cold. By the way, red beds are so simple and comfortable that no one asks where we bought them. There were other reasons for creating an industrial-style hotel. The urban environment has become an important factor. Agree, in a place where port workers, metal craftsmen, sailors and arrivals who visit the red light district in the area were again found in the area where they were once discovered, and industrial luxury.

Our neighborhood galleries are also a source of daily inspiration. We are constantly working with them and their photographers to expose their work, or publish them, or sponsor them. From this question we started. We wanted to create a place for people who want to get together with the local environment. Although the design of the hotel has received great attention, most guests choose our hotel by location, area, price or recommendations. But when people come, we clearly see that they are satisfied.

9. Malator

This house is often called underground, which is not entirely true: under the ground there is only a roof and 2 side walls. At the same time, it surprisingly harmoniously blends in and resembles the hobbits' holes from The Lord of the Rings. The malator was built back in 1998 and managed to gain popularity - its photographs even went to Forbes magazine.

Inverted House, Poland

Our sincerity in creating hotel spaces makes it easy to expect many people, and especially artists who are looking for inspiration for architects, writers, photographers. We are most pleased with the open spirit, the desire for new experiences and tolerance. So, here is our dream come true.

Unusual and spacious colors of the hotel. Who made you choose this? In addition, people are somewhat afraid of the drowsiness of the region. To change this, I was curious to play in colors, while preserving the authenticity of the place. At first we wanted rooms with blue walls that admired the waters of the Bosphorus and turquoise curtains.

8. The narrowest house

One of the narrowest houses in the world is located in Warsaw. If you decide to find it, you have to not blink, so as not to miss it - the width of the house is about 1.5 meters. Its author is the Polish architect Jacob Szczesny. He responded to the request of his friend, an Israeli writer who came to Poland for several days every year and asked him to find some small corner.

However, after seeing the visualization of the designers, these ideas were ignored. In order not to undermine the overall design of the hotel, the idea of using industrial concrete for walls, open spaces to create dark mirrors come to the fore. The hotel floors are diverse in color. Paintings, red beds and minimal color interventions looked better than an oppressive sense of luxury.

What do you determine when choosing finishing materials? Our goal was to use as much local materials as possible! There are many handicraft workshops, retro-style shopping centers in the Chukurdzhiv district and the famous Pershumbe Pazari, where half of Istanbul buys thorns or bricks at attractive prices.

Seen from the side, the house has a triangular shape. To get into it, you first need to climb the stairs (second photo on the left). On the ground floor there is a kitchen, shower and toilet. The bedroom and desk (far photo on the right) are on the second floor. You can climb there using the stairs attached to the right wall.

7. Forest sphere

The hotel has become an innovative and viable part of the modernized Karakoy region. Here is a wooden table in the hotel’s hole, made of wood carved from the Chukurdzhum quarters. His workshop is just 800 meters away. This is a young man named Burak, who is talking to a tree and understands when the wood is ready for processing.

In order to keep up with fashion trends, we added an interior with expensive pearls of designer wisdom - Teddy Bear Chair, Hans Wegner, Tom Dixon, Ingo Maurer, Artemis Lights. The harmony of old and new, local and global products, metal and wood, gray and rainbow colors, of course, was not limited to any well-known brand and created a free spirit loved by our guests.

Many children dream of having a tree house. But if childhood has passed, but the dream has remained, then the “Sphere of a free spirit,” as Tom Chadley of Canada called his invention, is at your service. He founded an entire company that produces such housing. There is also a hotel complex of 4 sphere rooms, which allows everyone to temporarily plunge into the life of a forest hermit.

6. Skateboarder House

This house is the dream of any skateboarder. The idea belongs to Pierre Andre Senizer, a professional skater. And the designer Gilles Lebonte Delapoint and the famous architect Francois Perrin were able to realize his plan. Initially, this house was presented for public viewing at an exhibition in Paris, and later recreated on the land of Senizer in Malibu. The unusual interior of the house allows Pierre to stay in shape, turning everyday movements around the house into a workout.

5. A transparent house - an introvert nightmare

It's nice to deal with open-minded people who have nothing to hide: in Tokyo, by order of one young childless couple, the design company Sou Fujimoto Architects created an absolutely transparent house. This is not just an ordinary house with glass walls - its design is very original and, according to the authors of the project, should remind life on a tree. Many small platforms are located at different heights and are interconnected by small stairs flowing into each other.

The answer to a legitimate question: the house has curtains that allow you to retire or enable appropriate censorship.

4. Cardboard house

Shigeru Ban - a famous Japanese architect, sometimes called a cardboard samurai - he uses cardboard in many of his projects. Shigeru was able to build a bridge that can withstand up to 1.5 tons of weight from recycled paper, cardboard and wood. Also among his works is a museum of modern art in Russia, an exhibition hall in Germany, houses for those who lost their homes during a natural disaster, and even a whole cardboard cathedral in Christchurch.

The main material of all these buildings, you guessed it, is cardboard pipes. To protect against water and fire, they are coated with a layer of polyurethane. Although life in a cardboard house is not as exciting as living in a free spirit, Shigeru Ban has earned a high place in our rating: his bold experiments with finding new building materials and using recyclables help in solving world problems. In 2014, Shigeru received the Pritzker Prize.

3. Glass house

This creation of the great architect of the twentieth century, Philip Johnson, is unique in that it was the first among its kind. Johnson built this house as a personal residence in 1946. Try to recall the traditional architecture, affordable building tools and materials of those years: it is not surprising that the glass house was recognized as the best work of Philip. Currently, various creative events are taking place in it, and from May to November it is open for tourists who can admire various art objects belonging to the master’s collection.

The chemosphere is a house similar to a spaceship built in 1960 by John Lautner. It was a glorious time of space race and aerospace fashion. The octagonal house is located on top of a steep slope, so that its windows offer a stunning view - it seems as if you are inside a UFO hovering in the air.

The history of the Hemosphere was not cloudless - the building changed hands and remained desolate for some time, but everything went smoothly: in 2004, the Hemosphere was declared the cultural heritage of Los Angeles and was ranked among the top 10 best houses in this city. In addition, the growing fame of Lautner prompted admirers of his talent to conduct a quality reconstruction of this building.

1.Fellingwater

Here is one of the most famous houses in the world - Fallingwater ("Fallingwater" - "Falling Water"). It was built as a private country house for one wealthy family in 1937. Its author is the architect Frank Lloyd Wright. During the construction, he strove to ensure that the building fits perfectly into the landscape - during the design, he took into account all the trees, boulders, various features of the relief and, of course, the waterfall.

Wright’s project was bold not only because of ecological harmony - the building is located in such a way that it seems that it is not subject to the laws of physics. It is not surprising that the architect had to constantly “fight” with contractors who sought to “fortify” one or another part of the house according to their own experience and understanding. However, Lloyd closely monitored the execution of work, rejecting such "help." And a year later, Fellingwater was completed. Its cost to the owners was $ 150,000 - by modern standards, it is almost 2.5 million dollars.

Each person approaches the construction of his house with special enthusiasm, trying to invest his whole soul in the process and using all his creative potential. And today all over the world there are the most unusual houses that attract special attention of people, and give their owners unique comfort. We bring to your attention a dozen of such unusual designs, each of which, undoubtedly, has absorbed a piece of the personality of its creator and can rightfully be called the real pride of the owners.

This 13-story building, reaching a height of 45 meters, began to be built in 1992 by an entrepreneur from the Arkhangelsk region - Nikolai Sutyagin. The main feature of this house was that it was built according to the technology, in which not a single nail was used. At the Norwegian conference, this one of the most unusual houses was recognized as a sensational construction. However, the businessman failed to complete the unusual building - the authorities recognized the construction as illegal, and Sutyagin was ordered to demolish the building. However, he refused to do this. Then the building to the fourth floor was demolished after a tender held in 2008. And four years later, the remains of the house burned down, so even the memories of the unique structure did not remain.

This building, of course, can claim the title of "most unusual home." Built on the ocean, the house is stylized as a cave. The situation inside the house really resembles a cave of the Neolithic. The plot of the cartoon “Flintstones” was taken as the basis for home improvement. Despite the cave atmosphere, everything inside looks comfortable and homely. This house belongs to the American TV presenter and his wife. Recently, they decided to put it up for sale, so now those who have $ 3,500,000 in their wallet have the opportunity to purchase a unique home.

The house belongs to designer Daniel Shapievka. However, the project was not prepared by him. The creation of the most unusual home of the author of this creation was prompted by the fall of the communist regime in Poland, when people had mixed feelings, did not know what to do next, and there was also a feeling that the world had turned upside down. The created house became a kind of cartoon for those times and today attracts a huge number of people - people often come here to look at such an amazing structure.

This is another building based on the Flintstones storyline. The most unusual house belongs to Victor Rodriguez, who built it between two huge stones. The author's goal was to create a cozy home away from civilization, so that you could enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle. Inside there is a staircase framed with wooden railings, a fireplace and even a swimming pool (carved from stone). However, Rodriguez lived with his family a little, because a large flow of tourists forced them to leave a secluded place.

Another of the most unusual houses was designed by the famous architect Javier Senosian, who specializes in bioarchitecture. Such housing was intended for a young married couple. A spiral staircase leads from one room to another.

6 “Crooked House”, Poland

An original house was built in the Polish town of Sopot, which later became known as the Crooked House. The Swedish artist Per Dalberg, who was guided by the tales of Szanser, worked on the project. The author's goal was to create an original house of a fabulous look. And this Dalberg quite succeeded. Today in the "Crooked House" is a shopping center where you can safely sit in various cafes, bars and walk through the many shops.

The title "narrowest house" is assigned to a building located in Warsaw between two high-rise buildings. The widest part of the dwelling has a size of 122 cm. This house, designed by the Israeli writer, has a bathroom, kitchen, living room with an armchair and a bedroom with a workplace. The writer said that he will live here twice a year when he comes on business to Warsaw.

This one of the most unusual houses was created by Su Fujimoto, who once thought about how important it is to bring people together in the neighborhood. The area of the building is only 55 square meters. Since the walls of the house are glass, it has a lot of sunlight. However, it is impossible to hide from prying eyes in such a house. True, in the evenings, residents of the house lower the blinds so that it is impossible to observe them.

The house, located in Sofia, was designed by architect Simeon (in 2009). Distinctive features of the structure are the absence of sharp corners and low power consumption. Inside there are heating radiators that look like a frog, pumpkin and ladybug.

In Cosville, a house appeared (in 2011), which is made in the form of a three-dimensional sundial. The building stands at a certain angle to the movement of the sun - this is done so that in the autumn and winter seasons the house is perfectly heated by the sun's rays, and in the summer there was always a pleasant cool inside.
